Piper ornatum features shiny green leaves with metallic pink along the veins. It thrives best in airy, well draining soil. Water when the top 1 inch of soil is dry. Piper ornatum does best in bright, indirect light. This plant is sensitive to overwatering and low humidity so you'll want to pay close attention to both.
This tropical vining plant produces a natural secretion called cystoliths. This is how the plant releases excess sugars through tiny openings in the leaf tissue. Eventually, the clear crystals will oxidize, leaving tiny black dots behind. This is completely normal and expected. Don't be alarmed if you find the crystals on the stems and petioles as well.
